Turin Pilgrimage

Meet the tour leader at 09:00am at Malta International Airport. Direct Air Malta flight KM624 at 10:55hrs and arriving at Milan, Linate Airport, at 14:50hrs. Upon arrival, we board coach and proceed for a short visit to Colle Don Bosco, where we rediscover the origins of that extraordinary personality we know as Don Bosco. Proceed to Hotel Diplomatic in Turin, followed by room check-in. Then out with tour leader for a familiarization walk around the area and dinner (extra). Return to your Hotel; free time.

After breakfast, we have a Turin City tour with our guide, and we discover the deep spiritual soul of Turin by visiting several localities: the Egyptian Museum (extra), considered one of the main Egypt museums in the world, free time in the city centre, a quick lunch (extra), the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, an amazing union between the Romanic and the Baroque style. We proceed for a visit to the Basilica of our Lady Help of Christians in Valdocco. Our last stop is a visit to the Holy Shroud Museum (extra), where you can admire the 16th century silver shrine that safeguarded the Shroud since 1578 until 1998, and return to Hotel. Free time.

Today’s excursion shall take us to Val D’Aosta. Leave Hotel after breakfast to head to the Val D’Aosta region, in full mountain/country land. Stop at the 12th century castle of Fenis (extra), symbol of the majesty and power of the Challant family. Here we shall meet a local guide to guide us through the town of Aosta, founded millennia ago and built in the Roman style: the Arch of Augustus and the Praetorian Gates (extra). We return Hotel. After Dinner we all walk to the Maria Ausilliatrice’s Basilica (10 minutes) to participate in this world-known and beautiful procession: starts at 8.00 p.m.

Today, after breakfast, we leave for a full day excursion to Saluzzo and Bra. The city of Saluzzo is built on a hill overlooking a vast, well-cultivated plain. Our main external visits are the Cattedrale Santa Maria Assunta, Chiesa di San Giovanni and Palazzo Cavassa. We proceed to the historical town of Bra , one of the main centres of the Piedmontese Baroque style with its many churches and palaces of the 17th and 18th century. Particularly interesting: St. Claire’s Church (extra) and the Baroque façade of the Town Hall Building. We continue by passing near Palazzo Traversa (extra), the last remaining real medieval building in town, and the church of Santissima Trinità (extra), rich in frescoes. We take a leisurely walk along Corso Garibaldi with its long Portico called “l’Ala” and if time permits we stop for a visit to the best historical bars in town for coffee and delicious fancy cakes typical of Piedmontese tradition (extra). Return to your Hotel; free time

Breakfast, we are off on a day excursion to Val Di Susa. As we leave Turin we head to Mount Pirchiriano, situated on the south side of the Val di Susa overlooking the village and lake of Avigliana. Here we visit the Sacra di San Michele (extra) which is a religious complex in the Piedmont region of north-western Italy. Here lunch is offered to us by friends of Fr Joe. In the afternoon we proceed to the city of Susa where we shall pass by the monument of the Arch of Augustus. Return to your Hotel; free time.

Early breakfast at 06:00 am followed by room check out. We head to Milan Linate Airport to check-in for your Air Malta flight KM625 departing at 11:15am and arriving back to Malta at 13:10hrs.
